Ananda Yoga Sadhana
Jul 11 @ 9:00 am – 10:30 am
Ananda Yoga Sadhana @ Ananda Dallas Meditation and Yoga Center | Addison | Texas | United States

A wonderful way to begin or keep up your spiritual practice, this 90-minute sadhana includes the Energization Exercises, pranayama, yoga poses, Chanting, and meditation.

The Energization Exercises were created for the purpose of activating the body cells at the same time balancing the excess energy within us, thus relaxing the body and mind. This unique series of exercises can be done during the day to energize oneself, and at the end of the day for centering and relaxation.

Pranayama is a technique to control the breath. In our day to day lives we often forget to breathe evenly, therefore practicing pranayama helps expel any accumulated carbon dioxide in the body and intake higher amounts of oxygen. Pranayama also helps us harness the flow of prana, life force energy, which enhances our health and mood.

Hatha Yoga is not only a physical exercise but also a union of body, mind and soul. Using breath control while smoothly going in and gradually coming out of yoga poses keeps the mind connected to the physical body. During this time the observer within the body is naturally awakened and if you focus completely you can almost feel the body, the mind, and the soul as separate yet one. As you continue the practice you will eventually feel the separateness dissolve.

Chanting of a mantra or kirtan is a nice way to let go of thoughts in the mind and feel peace. All mantras are made up of sounds that have a higher vibration. One single chanting can stay with you all day.

You will be gently guided into meditation after the chanting. Your mind may or may not come to complete stillness but the beauty of meditation is to accept whatever is and to be in the moment. Allowing your mind and breath to be as is in your meditation; you will find yourself rested, calm and peaceful at the end of the session.

Drop in or pre-register for the 5 class series!

The Path of Kriya Yoga
Jul 12 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

“You can be in a room twenty years, trying to get out through the walls, the ceiling, the floor. It is when you finally discover the door that you find your way out. That’s how it is with the soul. The average devotee may struggle his whole life trying to escape the bodily limitations by unscientific means, and by the paths only of devotion or discrimination. Kriya Yoga takes one to God by the universal highway: the spine.”
– Paramhansa Yogananda, from Conversations with Yogananda

All yoga techniques work with this energy, usually indirectly. Yoga postures, for example, can help open up the spinal channels, and balance the energy in the spine. Yoga breathing exercises can also help to awaken that energy.

The Kriya technique is much more direct. It helps the practitioner to control the life force by mentally drawing it up and down the spine, with awareness and will. According to Yogananda, one Kriya, which takes about a half-minute, is equivalent to one year of natural spiritual growth. Kriya Yoga is a powerful and sacred technique taught through initiation and has several prerequisite steps.

This 4 class series is specifically for those who want to explore and also deepen their understanding of this specific path of Self-realization as taught by Paramhansa Yogananda. It will meet every other week for 8 weeks.

We will use Autobiography of a Yogi as the foundational text for discussion but this is an interactive and experiential series which will include pranayam practice as well as the first two (out of 4) of those required steps/practices leading up to Kriya initiation by a qualified Kriyacharya.

Saturday Morning Yoga
Jul 14 @ 9:00 am – 10:30 am
Saturday Morning Yoga @ Ananda Dallas Meditation Center | Addison | Texas | United States

This class is a blend of relaxing, calm stretching and vigorous, strength building standing poses

Classes usually begin with a simple 1-2 minute seated meditation followed by at least 15-20 minutes of stretching warm-ups before engaging in more strenuous sequences of sun salutations and warrior poses.  The most vigorous, portion is usually followed by balancing poses for a calming and cooling down and then back to the floor and ending with a 5-10 minute savasana.

Warm up stretches are often geared toward a certain pose or body area that will be focused on during the class.  With the use of props such as blocks and straps the class is suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced.

Newer students are encouraged to find their own personal “edge,” not to push beyond their capacity and usually find, over time and with practice, their capacity increases and they can perform the more advanced versions of the pose.

Yoga is not competitive nor is it about self judgment, it is about linking the body and the mind through the breath thereby finding that calm, quiet place where you are totally in tune and at oneness in body, mind and spirit.
